Hunkemöller was founded in 1886, in Amsterdam, by Wilhelm Hunkemöller and his wife Josephina Lexis.
From humble beginnings in Amsterdam, Hunkemöller is today a global trend, present in 16 countries with cross-channel retail operations. We are one of the largest lingerie specialists in Europe and market leader in the Benelux countries. We have over 3,000 colleagues all focused on delivering quality products and exceptional customer service.
Our in-house design team is working continuously to develop new products and innovations. This ensures that we are always up-to-date with regard to the latest lingerie trends and guarantees the high quality and fit of our products. Hunkemöller has developed a multi-channel retail strategy to achieve growth through new stores, shops in shops, e-commerce and international franchising. On 3 October 2011, Hunkemöller won the annual Dutch ING retail prize for the best retail chain in the lingerie and underwear category for the fifth time in row. On 20 October 2011, Hunkemöller won the Dutch Piet Heyn award 2011 as a company that stands out in the market through daring and vision.
Corporate social responsibility
We work with suppliers all over the world to develop the best possible products. Being the best means offering high quality and excellent service at good prices. It also means that suppliers must treat their employees according to the same values that we use ourselves. In 2004, we introduced a code of conduct based on International Labour Organisation guidelines. Aspects include forbidding child labour and discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnic background, religious beliefs or sexual preferences. The guidelines also provide for job security, adequate wages that conform with the legal minimum in the country as well as healthy and safe working conditions.

We began our franchise programme in The Netherlands in 1979 and now operate franchise stores worldwide. Our franchise operation provides an effective way for our business to grow and an exciting business opportunity for our franchisees.
